Heaven is not a destination but rather a state of consciousness.

There is a mega-church near my house and they have a very large and flamboyant banner in front that reads HEAVEN. Every time I drive by it forces me to ponder the meaning of heaven and is it really a place in the sky that a lot of people hope they go to after they die.

Heaven is a state of consciousness. It is a way to perceive your life and environment. Heaven is a state of knowing and accepting the things that are sometime hidden when you have closed your soul off to what the universe has to offer. Once you understand how the universe works and how every single thing you think and feel will materialize into your life, then you can start to create your own heaven on earth.

If heaven is a state of consciousness then why are there stories of people who have died, have seen heaven and then have been brought back to life? This, I feel, is because when our physical bodies have died, our souls are at their most enlightened states. At the soul level, you are aware of all the good, bad, life lessons and karma that you have been through and still need to go through in the next life. When you work though all the bad, appreciate all the good and balance out the karmic scales, your soul can achieve heaven. You don't have to wait until you die to achieve the heaven state that I am talking about. You can work to clear up the "garbage" that poisons your soul, rots your light, and keeps you from living the life that you want to have.

Are you living in a state of need or want? Are you hiding emotions deep down that you do not want to deal with? Do you spend too much time judging others? All of these feelings and actions are what darken the life force with in you. Imagine you have a bright light radiating from your body. This is your life force. Inside this light you are warm and at peace. In this light everything is calm and you are at peace with your self.

Now imagine that this light has big dark brown spots in it. They look like oil spills in your beautiful light moving around like a dirty Lava Lamp. These oil spill are all over your light and soon they start to leak into the rest of your light. Your physical body feels heavy and your energy is weak. You feel sad, angry and even sick. Your once light and energetic soul is now heavy and stagnant.

To turn this around, start your day by listing off all the things you are grateful for. This will force you to see the good in your life, if even for a few minutes. Then make a plan to help atlas one person that day. It can be holding a door open for some one. Letting someone who has 2 items go in front of you in the grocery line. It can  be over tipping at a restaurant or buy a meal for a homeless person. Do at least one thing today to make someone else life a little easier.

Start living your life being grateful for everyday that you wake up. Thats step 1. Step 2 is to resolve any emotions that you may be holding back. This is the tricky part. You hid them for a reason. You have to look your "demons" straight in the eye and tell them that they are not gonna rule your life anymore. When you start living your life with out the fear, then life will get a whole lot easier.

For example, you are broke and barely living paycheck to paycheck. Debt collectors are calling and your can barely afford gas or food. Sound familiar? Lets take a look at where your judgements are. Are you envious of someone who makes more than you? Do you speak poorly about your current job? Do you judge your bosses and co-workers? When our life force is muddied with anger and judgements it tends to spill over into our lives. We are NEVER in a situation by accident. There is something that you are supposed to learn from the current situation. It is your job to figure out what that thing is?

Is that co-worker that you hate so much really teaching how to love unconditionally...or at least understand conditionally? Is that boss who keeps giving you work really teaching you to push yourself just a little further? Is your insufficient paycheck teaching you how to budget and spend sparingly? In every bad or hard situation, there is a positive life changing lesson with in it. Once you start seeing these positive lessons and acknowledging them and accepting them, your life will start to shift to match your new thoughts. What you think will materialize in your life so why not make what you think positive instead of negative??

There is a process that you need to go through to clean up all the karmic baggage that keeps you from living the heaven on earth state that you could be living. We will talk about this next time. For now, your homework is to make a list of all the things you are grateful for and to do nice things for other people. Thats all. Notice how your life shifts just be doing your homework I just gave you and comment on if you see the shift.

Until then, be nice to your fellow creatures and take care of yourself.
